An Insight into the Future: CEO Tim Smulders on Strategy and Growth

Tim Smulders shares his perspective on the key challenges facing LLP Group and the strategic priorities for the future. Read on as Tim answers key questions about what lies ahead for LLP Group.

  • What are the main challenges you anticipate in your new role as CEO, and how do you plan to overcome them?

LLP Group has always been extremely good at implementing and supporting the financial management and asset management solutions we provide to a very diverse customer base (both from an industry perspective as geographically). In order to have a healthy growth, without jeopardizing the quality of the services we provide to customers, it’s important to find the right balance between the new and the existing parts of the organization. Strengthening our organization both with new processes and people with the right mindset, will be key.
  • How does your past experience influence your approach to leadership at LLP Group?

As I started out as a consultant and moved on rather naturally to sales and account management, and then general management, I was in contact with a lot of dimensions in our own organization and others. Having spent time with all levels of partners and customers organisations allowed me to get a better understanding of what is important. The ‘Human Factor’ remains extremely important in all interactions and basic human values like respect, tolerance and being able to listen to others are very important to me. Quality of service and basically ‘helping people’ (employees, customers or partners) will be the driver.
  • What are your strategic priorities for LLP Group over the next few years, and how do you plan to implement them?

Our two major strategic priorities are to strengthen our organization to maintain and even improve the quality of service that our customers are used to, and to increase our sales and marketing presence to enable healthy growth, supported greatly by our major partners. Empowering our own key employees to be able to express (and implement) their ideas and install a relatively flat structure with clearly defined areas of responsibility will be key to reach our objectives, as our people are and always will be our major asset.

  • How do you see the market for software and consulting solutions evolving, and how will LLP Group position itself to seize these opportunities?

It’s very clear that the ERP market (although I am not a big fan of the term ‘ERP’ – I prefer Business Solutions) is moving rapidly to the Cloud, and LLP is obviously following that trend, without forcing any customer to move, of course as most of our solutions will continue to exist in an on-premise version as well. Outside of this obvious global trend, LLP’s relatively small size allows us to be very flexible and really work with our customers to help them to reach their goals. We already have a very large geographical reach (with customers in more than 90 countries) and we have seen that the arrival of Cloud solutions has only increased the importance of consultants who understand multinational challenges and can cope with them in a very streamlined way.

More and more, our customers count on our people to advise and help them to make the right choices for the long term. Although we always strived for a very wide range of competencies for our consultants, the solutions are demanding a more specialized approach. LLP has great specialists but at the same time retains an overall view of the project with our highly competent Project Managers.
  • What is your vision for strengthening LLP Group’s culture of innovation and ensuring continued growth?

We continuously listen to our customers and partners in order to be able to offer competitive and innovative solutions. LLP will strengthen our communication channels to all relevant partners, internal and external of the organization in order to inform but also to learn from each other. As an independent software vendor with technical skills to customize where needed, LLP is perfectly placed to be able to offer the best available solutions in many different areas. Increasing our salesforce, but always respecting our ‘consultative approach’ will fuel our continued growth.
