In the textiles and fashion industry the emphasis is on planning and optimising the production of a wide variety of sizes, styles and colours. In the pharmaceutical industry specific global standards apply in the areas of quality, batch tracking and expiry date management. Similar challenges exist in the food industry, with special emphasis on the management of perishable goods, auxiliary and packaging materials.

All manufacturing companies, however, face the same issues of product definition, production scheduling, materials requirements planning and costing.
